The 134-year-old Eastern Market, beloved for its food, flowers and flea markets, sustained approximately $20 million in damage as a result of an accidental, three-alarm fire on July 4, 2005. Over 200 firefighters responded to the blaze at the neighborhood landmark which destroyed 14 vendor stalls in its South Hall.
Minkoff Company was hired the night of the fire and worked closely with the Mayor’s Office and Fire Department while performing emergency mitigation and stabilization services. These included selective demolition, structural drying, shoring, and bracing.
Once the emergency phase of the project was complete, Minkoff Company was awarded a contract for reconstruction of the roof structure.
